need help with 20 gallon tank fish types

hello
i am very excited to buy a new 20 gallon aquarium tomorrow
i will need more information on how to cycle my tank for some weeks before introducing my fishies...
i will of course be adding some plants and a few caves and ornaments to hide in lol

just need some ideas on the community i am thinking of:

bleeding heart tetras x 5 (middle of tank)
blonde tux delta guppies x 2 (top of tank)
zebra danio x 3 (top of tank) (or another type of fish along the color blue...)
dwarf gourami x 1 (bottom of tank)
(will need some sort or bottom feeder or snail or something like that)

please bear with me as i am new and not accustomed with the ropes here lol

any input will help!!!

btw the total adult length for those fish i listed is 22'' but i didnt think an extra 2'' would really matter, just need color variety

Hi Josh, Welcome to Fishlore! Heres a link to the nitrogen cycle, which has great information about cycling your tank. Your stocking list sounds ok, however Gouramis will tend to stick to the top of the tank rather than the botton, so your stocking may be a little top heavy.

thanks for the link and advice
ive herd different info about the dwarfs, some say they are top and others say bottom...
i like the other selections however, what could i substitute with the zebra danios to have something more bottom orientated?
also what should i use as a bottom feeder for algae growth?
so atm i have:

bleeding heart tetras x 5 (middle of tank)
blonde tux delta guppies x 2 (top of tank)
dwarf gourami x 1 (middle/top of tank)
now i need something at the bottom preferably 2 or more
also a bottom feeder

any suggestions bro>?

I'd probably go for something like....

1x Dwarf Gourami - top/middle
2x Male Guppies - top/middle
6x Bleeding Heart Tetra - middle/bottom
6x Corydora Catfish - Bottom

Theres are loads of other options, have a look at the Freshwater Fish Profiles on the Fishlore homepage, but something like that would make a nicely balanced 20gal community tank.

should i reduce the corydoras to 3-4 or would that not be sufficient?
or should i get bristlenose pleco? what the minnimum amount of each that should be housed in a community?

Corys prefer being kept in groups, it all depends on what you want really. I keep BN Plecs, and they're great fish, but you don't exactly see much of them. They also grow to 6 inches and produce more waste than Corys. 6 Corys will be fine in a 20gal, espeicially if they're the only bottom dwelling fish in the tank.

Looks good, unsure if the 2 Male Guppies will have an aggression issue? Wait for a guppy pro for sure

That stocking list will be fine, I'd add the Dwarf Gourami last, as he is the only one that may have any territorial issues.

I'd only go with one male guppy unless you are okay with potentially splitting them up at some point.
