I just started with a 55gal. And seem to have picked up some brown algae spots every where. All over the fake plants the rocks and now even the glass. Im sure i can get the algae of the glass with a scraper but what about all the decor? im getting mixed anwsers from other web sites......to much light, to little, to much sun light, 25% water change. Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla.......some one set me straight

thanks guys,
Johnny

Ah easy. It's called diatoms and usually comes with new tanks. It will go away on it's own and you can simply rub it off everything in the mean time. Nothing to worry about at all, probably the best algae to have.

Welcome to Fishlore, you'l find a lot of nice members here.

I have been waiting for over a month for the diatoms to dissappear from my tank but so far no luck. I clean it all at least once every two weeks and think thats the end of it. but to my surprise it just comes back! This tank has been running for three months now. So I just give into the fact that I have to do this continual cleanning every few weeks. Wish it would stop in my tank tho. It is ugly!

How about a few oto's, they will keep it under control.
