Newbie Hoping To Share Some Info

Hey folks,

So in all the troubles, I had with getting my 10 gallon guppie tank up and going (again thanks for all the advice and help) one of the things I did was to do a 60% water change using Deer Park Spring Water. I was doing this because of the 1ppm Ammonia in my tap water. Well after having done it, my tank went crazy. Nitrates shot through the roof. I started freaking out and went through an arduous process of changing everything in the tank, rescuing the guppies to a new tank etc....

Long story short, I did some checking, both online and with API test kit. Deer Park Spring Water has tons of Nitrates in it. (Guess I should have thought about trates and trites being in natural water)

Just wanted to share in case anyone else new to the hobby was considering doing the same thing. Beware the Trates

It is always a good idea to run the tests on ones source water whether it be tap, well, bottled or wherever. I am glad you figured out where your problem was coming from.

Welcome to fishlore Thank you for sharing that I'm sure a lot of people not only new to hobby but some that have been around for awhile would have never thought of that..

Prove that bottled water isn't all cracked up to what the hype makes it.

1ppm ammonia in your tap is fine as long as that's what you cycled your tank with. I mean, no ammonia is better, but if your cycle is built to handle it, it will be converted within an hour.
