New to planted aquariums, ideas for 18 gallon?

HI all,

I'm looking at putting live plants into my new ~18 gallon tank (70l). I've looked at some begginer plants but I'd love some advice on a few plants that would work well together. I'm looking at putting tetras in the tank if that helps!

The current plan is 1-2 anubias, maybe some baby tears, java moss or java fern. I'd love to have a bit of colour and varied texture but don't really know how to organise it!

Thanks!

This is what I’ve done with my 16gal.

I've had good luck with Bacopa Monnieri. I think it's super cute, so I'm glad it's doing well in my tank! I also have Java Fern and Anubias Nana and the three all have very different looks, which I really enjoy

This is the set up I went with! From left to right it's lace fern/water sprite, then elodea, then some pink baby tears spread around the mid-ground. Then one anubias on driftwood in the front right and some java moss ondriftwood and the stones

My only issue so far has been keeping the planted ones in the substrate and not floating up, I'm planning to get some more gravel to add as a top layer (the stuff in there is stolen from my other tank haha).

Throw a crypt wendtiI red and maybe some ludwigia minI super red. It’ll add some color and both are pretty easy to care for

The diff Anubias are great as you said , crypts , java fern ,swords.. there’s tons of easy entry level plants but I can’t recommend a dwarf aquarium Lilly enough. You buy them as a a bulb. They’re awesome... grow like a weed , you get some red amber color and they get huge

Water wisteria planted in the back is an easy plant. When it gets too tall just trim it, remove the lower leaves from the portion you cut off, and stick it in the substrate. Instant new plant.
