New thick algae. What to do?

Hey
I'm sure it's no big deal. So I've had two failed cycles (one fish less one fish in) so I'm doing it manually now with water changes. It's been one day since my first water change and this new really thick green, and some brown algae is all over the back wall and main ornament. Is it just too much light? It's on 12-14 hours a day until I can buy a timer.

Wow, that's really fast growth! Are you out during the day? You can turn the light on in the morning then off when you leave, and on again when you come home! Or you can leave the light off for a few days to try to kill off the algae. You won't need light for your BB anyway.

Yeah. I have school. I leave at 7, when I turn them on, and keep them on until ~9-10PM. I know that's a lot. I just can't come back from school in the middle of the day and turn them off. Once I buy a timer, I can set it to 12-10

If you don't have any live plants in there or you expect to buy a timer within a few days then I would just leave the lights off altogether! Or maybe turn them on only when you're home from school at the end of the day. You can do your homework by the light of your cycling tank

Unfortunately, I have live plants. Would 5:30-11 be enough light for them? Luckily, school ends for me on Friday, so after that, I'll be able to control the time.

What should I do about the current algae though? From what I can tell, te brown is diatoms and idk what the green is

Nothing yet. Without enough light it may just die back on its own. Wait and see!

If you want though you can also remove it by hand. In doing so you'll be removing a lot of the nutrients in the system that helped them to grow in the first place.

Eh I'll leave it it's probably helping ammonia and nitrates anyway.
