New tank project - Riparium 3ft

I am wondering if the C02 poisoning with my Golden Ram has impacted his overall health. He was never quite right even when the tank returned to normal.
Such events of course have impact. But let's face it: Golden Rams are an overbred domestic strain of a generally rather fuzzy species. I never expect them to survive more than 6-10 months after purchase.

I am actually done with Rams altogether. I want to try something challenging and different. I will be in Japan for a few weeks so will do some research when I return and try to resolve this water issue. I will post the results of my tap water testing tomorrow.

Last time I kept them was 20 years ago. I have rarely seen any healthy ones on the normal trade so I didn't even consider them for a long time.
Maaaaybe if I get the chance to obtain wild caught ones, but only then.

What temperature were you keeping the aquarium ? If you like rams you could try for wild rams (they only come in the stock gbr colour since gold/black/electric blue were created via selective breeding.

It's been 4 long months since I posted last but a lot has happened. I took a vacation to Japan across Christmas and had a friend feed my fish. Unfortunately, the tank was not topped up. This meant that due to the spray bar pointing towards the surface of the tank once it dipped below it sprayed water everywhere. I had to have my carpets shampoo'd. I lost 3 of my stock in the process.

I decommissioned my smaller tank and transferred the hardscape items to the bigger tank.

What's gone well: I finally found a good balance with the light and my algae problem has now gone. The tank is finally finding balance and is looking great. I have not added any more fish and I don't intend to at this point.

my current stock is:
2x Kuhli Loaches
8x Black phantom Tetras (some are red)
1x Galaxy Bristlenose (I'm not quite sure it's actually name).
2x Corydoras
1x yoyo Loach
15(ish)x cherry shrimp

I am considering upgrading my filter. The one I have is an aquaone filter. It does the job but I honestly only got it as a starter filter as the setup was already edging $2.5k to start with.

You are probably aware of this but it tends to work better to keep the loaches in larger groups - esp the yoyo as they are very social in a large group - in a small group or single they will sometime go looking for tankmates to play with and the 'tank' mates will react negatively to this 'playing' creating problems. I keep my clown/zebra/yoyo together and they all like to play together though the zebra are sometime a bit concern about a clown loach that is 4 times more massive.

Yeah I actually had 3 in there and the other two had vanished (literally vanished. I have not seen them or their bodies for months). The remaining one hangs with the Kuhlis and sometimes swims with the phantoms. I don't want to add anymore stock and it seems pretty settled. If there was any clear signs of stress I would 100% add in some more but it's fine for now.

They do jump - though golden zebra are more likely to jump - so there is always a chance they jumped out. I put fiber-glass screening over all the 'open' cracks in the lid and one still managed to jump out ;)

While you don't have them - a fellow had a 15 year old clown loached that jumped out of a 36 inch tall aquarium... made his day.

I have had a fair few jumping fish but I checked all around the cabinet and nothing. But there is a chance it jumped out and my dog had a snack for lunch. But it certainly is a possibility haha
