New Tank... Help

I have two 10 gallon tanks, a 20 gal and a 1.5 gallon (for a “problem” minnow who turned aggressive to my guppies) up and running and stocked. They’ve each been running for a long time, the 1.5 is the newest and has been running for 4 months.

I bought a 37 gallon tank and have cycled it and now want to stock it. Can someone help me figure out what to stock it with? The only requirement is that the tank mates get along with my little convict cichlid who’s been living with platys, guppies and white cloud minnows his entire life and isn’t aggressive (yet). Yes I know he shouldn’t be with small peaceful fish but he was given to me for free from the lfs because he was shipped to them by accident as a tiny tiny baby and was in a tank with large fish who may have eaten him. I bought the 37 gallon tank for him once I got him a few weeks ago.

This link should be useful.

That’s helpful for first timers but I have experience with peaceful fish like those. I even have several of them. I have glass catfish, albino Cory catfish, platys, guppies, white cloud minnows, otocinclus, ghost shrimp, nerite snails, 1 convict cichlid, tetras and KuhlI loaches. I’ve had Molly’s and I hated them.

My question was specifically in regards to larger fish as I’ve had plenty of 1-3 inch fish and have experience with them. I want ideas on who I can keep with my convict cichlid as he ages.

This is from Fishlore's profile of Convicts:

Convict Cichlid Tank Mates : If you're trying to breed them it's best to keep them as a pair in a tank by themselves. They should do well with other larger cichlids but you may see some aggression from time to time. Don't put convict cichlids in a community aquarium.

Although, I am sure someone with real life experience could elaborate.

They do best alone or with a “friend” in a spacious tank, or possibly with another Central American cichlid species. I wouldn’t reccomend anything else as they have an aggressive temperament. I personally would purchase another convict(s), a couple males (males are sometimes known to fight, but if they are the only fish in the tank than they should be fine - be sure that it has plenty of cover if you are going to go this way though) or females if you want literally a billion babies. Males may fight over females if there are multiple males and a single female. But if there is a female for all the guys, then you should be fine as they are in a fairly large tank. I have heard things about keeping convicts with tiger barbs, but I have no experience with this.

Hope this helps!
