New tank help please

Hello I just bought a 37gal tank starter kit today. I have already done these things (in order):

Cleaned the inside of the tank using plain water and a cloth
Set up my filter, heater and light
Rinsed and placed my rocks, gravel and plants
filled the tank using tap water
added the water conditioner.

Now I am just waiting for 4-5 days before testing the water. I am 100% beginner and would like any advice as to what I should do next and later on down the road. For instance how often should I and what percentage of water should I change? Any advice on this anything else a complete beginner should know is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Welcome to FishLore!!

Congrats on your new tank.

Instead of writing a huge long confusing post I'm going to provide some important reading.
They are very important before you begin to consider getting fish.
Also, testing your water in 3-4 days isn't going to do any good.
You'll understand more after you read the links.

At this point, research is your friend

Research is what I did when I set up my 75-gallon tank and spent close to a week. I am glad I did, I did what you did in setting it up but you bight want to look at adding bacteria. Looks like you are on the right tract. Remember one thing you need is patience to establish your aquarium before you start populating the tank.

Good Luck and welcome to FishLore!!

Just letting a tank sit with the filter running for a few days will do nothing to help get the cycle process going. As Lucy suggested read up on the Nitrogen Cycle so you know how to get the tank started producing the required good bacteria.
