New Tank For Oscar

I'm looking to get another tank in the near future. Currently I have a young Oscar in a 40 breeder. Petco is having their dollar per gallon sale and I'm thinking of picking up a 75. The thing is, I'd really like to add another fish or two with my Oscar, so I'd rather get a 125 or bigger. I've been looking at craigslist and there are 125's that pop up and are usually around $300-$400 at minimum. I've also thought about building one myself, that way I can make it whichever dimensions I want. My question is should I buy a 75 now to be safe, or wait a bit and buy/build a 125? If I do plan on getting the bigger tank, I was thinking of adding a jack dempsey, a pair of dempseys, or a dempsey, and a green terror. Would any of those be ok? If so, would it be better to do it when they're younger to help with aggression? I'm sure the Oscar will get much bigger faster than either of the other types of fish.

 

Hello. I keep my Oscar Big Boy in a 125 by himself. Oscar's grow fast and are very messy!!! You should wait for a 125.

 

If you really want more than one oscar or big cichlid. You should definetly wait for a 125g.

If you are happy with just keeping your oscar alone, a 75 is the bare minimum I would recommend.

 

Key words are young Oscar, so I assume it’s small. I have 12 tanks so I never can have enough, so of course I would be the one to tell you to get the 75 and then upgrade him again to the 125 when he gets bigger. Now you have both, sounds good to me.

 

Ok, so I'm pretty set on the 125. Would 2 JDs or a JD and GT be too much? Should I just stick with one more?

 

I wouldnt keep a single Oscar in anything less than a 125, and I definitely wouldnt add any other fish to it.
