New Tank, Crazy Fish Help :)

HI all,

I have a 20 gallon hex tank. Lightly planted, 1 large java fern. And 2 little plants. I've also made a cave and hideys out of slate and pebbles.

So I added some tss to my tank and then started off with 2 zebra danios. I've now been told that zebra danios are probably a bit too small for a hex.

The guy in my local fish store said that some would be okay depends on the personality of them, one of mine chases the other all day when the light it on, and then they are all pally pally at night with the light off.

Anyway, I'm taking him in a sample of my water today as its been 3 weeks since I added the fish and so he's going to test it to make sure that the tss done its job. ( I've obviously been doing water changes ) he's suggested adding some more danios assuming the water is okay and then seeing if they calm down once in a shoal.

Is this a good idea? I can always donate them back to the lfs or another aquariust if it all goes **** up, I've seen other people who have had success with danios in slightly smaller tanks.

Thank you everyone!!!

You can add for to make a school but you have to watch out for water parameters since your doing fish in cycle and when you go to the lfs for your sample ask for exact parameters your water is good isn't enough and try to get API master kit for your tank
What is tss?? I assumed that they are beneficial bacterias

The danios are probably fine in that size, could you list the dimensions?

Tss is tetra safe start and should mean that you skip the fish in cycle, as it adds good bacteria into the tank already.

I have my apI kit on order, but it was supposed to be delivered on Monday, then redelivered yesterday so no idea when I'll finally get it

HI yes of course the width from top of tank across is 18 inches at the widest, and each side is 9 1/2 inches. Height of the tank is 20 1/2 inches.

When I filled it up I reckoned I got almost 100 litres in there

If you can, grabbing a small bottle of TSS and some more danios to make a good school, would be ideal. They do like to be in a bigger school. And you have enough hiding spots that they can get away from each other.

I would have to order the Tss as my lfs doesn't sell it. ( I live in a very rural area of uk )

But, if my water test comes back good I will add some more to help settle my fishies down

Then once I get my apI kit in the post I can do daily testing to maintain the water and wait for my tss.

Although it's been 3 weeks so if I did have another cycle after putting the danuos in after the tss originally will that still be cycling, or would that have finished now?

Thanks

I don't know if it's any help to you but the only place I've found that stocks TSS in the UK is PetsCorner.

You probably will go into another cycle adding more fish, because you're adding more waste. But just follow up with frequent water changes until it finishes and you will be fine
