New Tank, Accessories, How Did I Do?

Ok, so I just purchased a 50 long glass tank that came with only the hood and lights. I also got a really nice stand that matches my living room furniture and has doors so I can hide all my fish goodies. It was $200 but on sale for $160 as it was already put together and was used in the show room and hand some nicks and scraches and one the doors doesn't work right (pretty sure I can fix that). I got the manager to agree to $130 (yeah!!!).

I bought the following:
Fluval aqua clear filter for 70 gallon tank
2 aqueon submersible heaters, 150 watt each
I normally just go with a submersible thermometer but I picked up a digital one to try out (I can return it if it stinks!)

And I got it all for $283!!!!! (this is for those who read my first post about whether or not to buy a used 7 year old 50 gallon with basic metal stand and a couple of add ons that I would need to upgrade for $300- Thanks to all who motivated me to go shopping around tonight).

Anyway, before I take the plastic off any of the things I bought......I would appreciate you're help again. Did I do ok or should I return/replace something. Also, I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I've never tried a digital thermometer, so I'll have to let someone else comment on that.. all I can say is wow!!!!!! you got a great deal!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!

Can't wait to see how it turns out! And those doors should be fixable.. might just need new hinges if you're handy.

So you bought a new tank instead? Grats. I am really getting the itch to buy another as well, but I have no room. Petsmart has s 50G with full hood for $139.

Thanks and I will definitely post pics when I have it up and running. The door shouldn't be a problem. If I get stuck I can always ask dad to come over for dinner, lol!

Yes and I'm so glad I did - now I'm not settling as I did want a 50 long not tall. Can't thank everyone on fishlore enough! I went to petsmart too!

Digital thermo's are great. I think they are more accurate then the lab glass ones. I use the Tetra models and even though the brand label Tetra is cheap I like the thermo! I have one in my puffer tank since they attempted to eat the plastic base of the lab glass one. I take it in and out.

I think you did just fine. Personally I don't use the digital ones but then again I test my tanks once a week or so with an infared thermometer that I have. Its usually right on with my cheap aluminum framed hang on tank ones.

I love the digital thermometer. I put it "inline" when I do my water changes. It helps me keep the water within one degree (f) when I fill from my sink. It was my first thermometer, but I couldn't imagine using anything else.
