New Snails - Questions Re Calcium And Hard Water

Last weekend I picked up a yellow mystery, a purple mystery (sold as black but looks purple) and a nerite snail. I've since been reading about snail care, as I really don't know much. It looks like some people add calcium into their tanks for their shells. My KH is around 6 and my GH is around 19, so I have hard water. Would I need to add calcium if I have hard water already? My pH tends to range between 7.4-8.0, so I don't really want to raise it. The purple snail doesn't have the best shell and it has a hairline crack in it and it looks sort of dry, so I'm a bit concerned about calcium.

Thanks!

In general if you have hard water you probley have enough calcium in the water already. As far as I know cracks don't actually repair them self's but I have heard of people super gluing shells to repair cracks. you could get your water tested for calcium, I used a pool test to see what was I my tap water.

I have softer water KH4/GH6 and my snails are fine.

Your water should be fine. As mentioned the crack won't repair itself, but in your hard water, the shell shouldn't get worse.

A good source of calcium is also through their diet. Veggies are a good diet for mystery snails.

Oh good to know, I had read that small cracks do heal themselves but maybe they just meant they wouldn't get worse. I gave them some zucchinI last night - seems to be a hit.
