New saltwater aquarium

Haux

Hi there,

I have a 60L tank with a 50W heater in it - the tank is located in my bedroom which has the AC at around 16c consistently. The 50w heater is set to 26c, but I can't seem to get my tank above 21c, is this because I need a higher watt heater?

Thanks!

Yes. A 50 watt is ideal for about a 5-10 gallon tank depending on how much you want to raise your temp and you would need to raise it roughly 18 degrees F to get it to your desired temp. Yours is roughly 15 gallons, so I would be looking at a minimum of 100 watt especially if the tank is near the AC vent and you are keeping your room on the chilly side so I imagine the AC is running a lot.
