New Piece of Driftwood!

It needs a few days to take on water so right now it's in the corner with one of my rock caves weighing it down, but it's exactly what I wanted. Lots of curvy branches to make nice hiding places.

Here's a picture of it from the website it came from https://manzanita-driftwood.com:

I'll post more pictures tonight, right now it's still lights out time in the tank.

I love manzanita wood...You can definitely do a lot of things with that.

Yes! It's so pretty. I like the way each branch waves. I think it's perfect for fishtanks. The coloring is really great too, it's streaked with light and dark.

The fish already seem quite fond of it, especially the cherry barbs. I think they needed something taller in the tank to bring them out of hiding a bit. And of course the cories are trying to hoover it up. The platies are the only ones that seem indifferent, of course, it doesn't look like food so they aren't interested.

Lol...

Are you going to attach anything to it? Or create some cool looking aquascape with it?

I love the customers fish tanks on the website.....

I'm not sure yet. I had originally intended to have it sitting as it is in the picture above, but right now in my tank I have it the other way, with the longer branch along the bottom, and I kind of like the way that looks. I will probably tie a few plants to it. I have two anubias and several java ferns in that tank I could attach, but I'll have to wait until it stops floating for that.

This is obviously not where it's going to stay, but it was the easiest place to weight it down for a few days while it takes on water.

When I did my water change I was actually surprised by how much the water had browned just since I added it. I don't mind the tannins though, I've wanted to try one of those black water biotopes since I saw one on you tube.

I do like the inadvertent driftwood bridge I made when I moved the other piece to accommodate the new one, so I might try to keep that when I plan out the final positioning.

PS - Don't mind the white floaty stuff, I had just finished my water change when I took these.

It's a gorgeous wood. I looked at several different places online to source it after I'd seen it in a picture somewhere. Ebay has pieces cheaper, but I like the place I linked above because they power wash them and they provide individual pictures with measurements in three dimensions. You know exactly which piece you're getting.

Ohmygosh! I just realized that I accidentally took a picture of my survivor platy fry in there. I've been trying to get a picture of him all week. You can't see him all that well, but it's better than any of the other shots I've taken.

Introducing the very inappropriately named.... Fish Biscuit. *sigh* Don't blame me, my husband named him. He's a big Lost fan. Anyway, I just derailed my own thread, but I think that's fine.

I'm really not sure how I'm going to arrange it yet.

Thanks! I'm really excited about how well it's coming along. I didn't realize when I started how much I would like the natural look so some of the things I got originally were pretty crazy, and I've been replacing them one piece at a time. With this driftwood I think I'm done with hardscape. Got some more fish and a couple of plants coming in next week. Now the long wait for the plants to grow in.

Finally took on enough water for me to move it around today. I decided I kind of liked where it was and just sort of tilted it back. I think I need to find some moss to wrap around the end.

Definitely moss...may I suggest weeping moss on one of the tips, I think it would look nice how it would drape it.

This looks awesome. I found a piece on the beach by my house that looks like a crocodile. Can't wait to add it in.
