New Oscar Help

So I purchased a beautiful oscar this evening and after getting him/her acclimated to the aquarium I thought it would be fine. It keeps floating down to the bottom of the aquarium as if there's too much pressure and I've already let some water out to help it acclimate easier. I don't know if it's sick or anything. The tank is fully cycled and I used pre conditioned water (got a great deal from a friend on some pre condition water). The oscar does move however when I take the net and move it generally near it or put my hand near it on the other side of the glass. Any input would be great.

I've heard oscars have a tendancy to "sulk" when moved about. Just leave it alone for now, keep the lights off and let it adjust.

How long has the tank been setup? What size is the tank? What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels, what is preconditioned water?

The tank has been setup for approximately 3 weeks, ammonia levels are 0 ppm, nitrite is 0 ppm, and nitrate is 15 ppm. Aquarium is 40 gallon and pre conditioned water from what I understand is water that allows the tank to finish cycling sooner or be finished cycling already allowing fish to safely survive. Normally it's expensive so most people avoid it.

You weren't joking about their sulking. Lights are out and I'm watching this little sucker swim happily around the tank. I guess it was a false alarm. Thank you for the input however.

I know you have probably been told this but 40gal is not big enough for an Oscar for max size and waste

I'm well aware. Luckily it's a temporary grow out and he's only 2.5" long so we're good for now.

Trust me when I say they grow very fast and eat a lot and poop way more than you could imagine and not the small strings like little fish they are huge thick poop they are messy

I completely understand, he will only stay there for at most 3 more months.

All good some people don’t realise how fast they grow I swear mine would grow noticeably between feeds when I first got them. They are the best fish especially if you give them plenty of space
