29 Gallon Tank New Neons and Plants

Hey guys!

I just received 6 neon tetras from a woman who didn't want to risk moving them to Oklahoma. She had them for about a year and they look very healthy. I also got some nice plants (an anubias, a marimo moss ball, and 3 java ferns). She also threw in some food that they had been eating and a few chemicals, most of which I probably won't use. So here is my stock thus far:

2 ADFs
1 Dwarf Gourami
8 Flame Tetras
6 Neon Tetras
2 Ottos
4 Amano Shrimp
10+ RCS
?? MTS
Mystery Snail
2 Nerite Snails

I am pretty much stocked at this point. The only addition I would like to make to this tank is a few more ottos. I used to have more but they seem to mysteriously disappear. I plan to add 3 more.

And Here is a picture of the tank! Let me know what you think!

awesome tank... I like the natural plant look. Cool fish too. I hope to get a 29 gallon NPT similar to that soon with a very similar stock list too haha

Thanks!

This tank was originally going to be an NPT but due to other circumstances I had to just use gravel.

I enjoy my mystery snail as well. I've had him for almost 2 years now. He is actually in the process of redecorating the tank as I type this. He loves to run over the plants and uproot them.

Well, when Petco have their $1 gallon tank sale, you can start that one as a NPT ;-)

I don't have room for another tank, but I wish!

Looking good.

Thanks, Psalm!

Tank is looking good! the neons add a nice bit of color to the tank to compliment the flame tetras. I also like the way you have planted the tank looks very nice.

Thank you very much! I just need to propagate the anacharis for a bit more height and I think I will be satisfied!

Nope, not really a realistic possibility. I have my hands in the tank all the time!

lol I agree... I always tell myself... ok one more plant species and I'm done. No more fixing until I upgrade to the 29. A week later I'm moving a rock or replanting stuff haha

Hmm, your canister filter plumbing looks eerily familiar..... lol

Hmm, I wonder why that is?

Looks Good, snails are some of the more interesting residents sometimes, if nothing else playing hide and seek when they have disappeared

Get a rock or a nice piece of wood, to stand behind the low rock to the right - that would get more balance in your setup, against the high plants to the left.

Update

Just an update on my 29 gallon planted tank.

I lost my mystery snail a few days ago. I had him for awhile and he was fairly large. Come to think of it, he was never smaller than a golf ball and I had him for over a year so maybe he died of old age. I noticed something wasn't right when I fed him so I removed him from the tank and placed him in a small bowl of dechlorinated water, hoping that he may perk up. He didn't seem to get any better so I let him stay in the bowl overnight so that the shrimp and other snails wouldn't pick at him. After he died I went to Petsmart and got a small, dime-sized, snail.

Other than that I have a problem with my flame tetras. I believe that I bought a diseased batch from my LFS a few months ago. I have had a few deaths since then. One fish will die and then a week or so later another fish will die with the same symptoms. They have all been flame tetras. My neons, DG, and otos are not affected. I can't figure out what it is for the life of me. Here is the thread for that topic:

On a better note, all of my other fish are doing great and I have attached some pictures!
