Hi everyone! My name is Greg. I joined the forum in June 2021, but didn't get around to introducing myself because I had started a new job. I currently have a 10g tank with 16 Neocaridinas (Red Cherry Shrimp, Orange, Yellow, Green Jade, Blue Velvet, and Red Rili shrimps.). Recently I just added 10 Malaysian Trumpet snails, along with doing my first 50% water change (I was pretty nervous because I have a shrimplet in the tank), but the water change went smoothly. The equipment I have is an Aquarium Co-Op Sponge Filter, and a Java Fern. My niece talked me into getting a SpongeBob Square Pants Pineapple. I also put about half Fluval Stratum into the tank and kept the other half of my original substrate. When I first started I had about 10 Neon Tetras that I bought from the LFS that didn't make it, they all passed after a few hours of being in the tank. So I decided not to do fish for awhile and let the tank get more established with the snails and shrimp and now that it is getting more established I'm thinking of doing fish again, but am concerned with the shrimplet (it's only a month old and still pretty small). Other than that, I'm looking forward to learning more about this awesome hobby and maybe getting another tank (already have this in mind, I'll probably get a 15g tank).

Thanks!

Welcome! I'm glad you finally had a chance to introduce yourself! I don't know about you, but I love shrimp and your tank sounds awesome. :)

Welcome! Shrimp ain't my thing, but there are plenty here who keep them!

Thank you JLAquatics I do love my shrimp, I'm actually thinking about getting more lol, this hobby has me addicted already and it is so much fun minus the losses of course but that's unfortunately all about the learning aspect of this hobby.
Thank you for the welcome BigManAquatics

Welcome! I did just fish and plants for almost 2 years before getting into shrimp with a Fire Red 10 gallon tank. I've now added a Blue Dream shrimp tank as well. They are so fun to keep and watch!

I'd be careful adding any fish to the tank until the shrimplet is bigger. It seems that even small fish can be hit or miss with the shrimplets.

Thank you Leeman75 for the advice about the shrimplet, generally how long does it take for a shrimplet to get bigger? I'm feeding the entire tank Bachter AE, along with ShrimpKing foods but with those I'm only feeding like an eighth of the stick.

Thank you NearMeBettas!! Here are the pics of my tank. Mine is the one with the Sponge Bob Square Pants Pineapple and my mom’s is the one with the Betta. We’re waiting to get a light for the Betta from Amazon. We got him from our local PetSmart.

I am far from a shrimp expert...I had some Cherry Shrimplets within a couple of weeks after getting the adults, but between a honey gourami and planaria outbreak, they disappeared, along with 6 adults. I am more inclined to think it was due to the planaria, as I never saw the HG go after anything and the adult shrimps would be too big for it. Before they disappeared, they seemed to be growing pretty fast. After a couple of weeks, I was amazed at how much bigger they had gotten.

I now have about a dozen shrimplets in my blue shrimp tank and no planaria, so if you had asked a month or two from now, I could give you a better answer. But alas, all I can tell you is that I think you should hold out before putting fish in as long as you can.
