New Iridescent Shark Not Eating/ Tank Surfing

Hello! My Iridescent Shark which I bought about a week ago hasn’t been eating since the first day I put him in the tank. He is also been surfing up and down the tank glass thinking he can swim thorough the glass. I tried bloodworms, brine shrimp, regular shrimp, and flakes. I also tried it with the light off and nothing. What is your advice?

Have you tried soaking in garlic?

 

Tank is 40 gallon. I can get the water tests tomorrow. I use the liquid API testers tank mates are 2 eels one larger than the other 2 plecos a kissing gourami and Synodontis Ocellifer catfish. I do weekly water changes 30-40 percent on Tuesdays. I have not tried soaking in garlic with him and never done it.

That tank is way overstocked which very well may be stressing the irid out enough to where he isn’t eating. There can also be water quality issues resulting from the stock that’s causing him to be stressed.

For his optimal health and to get him to eat the best thing would likely to get an adequate set up for a 3ft fish(since irids get 3ft). Of course do try the garlic as well, hopefully that can help short term, but long term they’re will likely be more issues if kept in this housing.

 

your tank is small and over stocked the shark needs a lot of room to move and garic may help
