Hi everyone I am new to this site. I am finding a lot of interesting and helpful things here. I grew up in a household with three fish tanks so when my kids asked me if we could have a tank I figured since I had experience cleaning and feeding the fish I should have no problem with it. Well let me tell you this whole thing is a lot different than i remember. With the nitrogen cycling the water changes. In my house when i was a kid we would change the water once a month and I was the human syphon. we would take out almost all of the water and watch the fish swim on their sides. As far as adding dechlorinators I never heard of such a thing. when we got new fish we used to pour all of the water from the bag in the tank from the fish store. Wow, after reading so many things on the net and here it's a wonder any of those fish survived at all.
