Again, my LFS comes up short. He can't order me any fish - the only loaches he stockes are clowns :(

So, off to petsmart. They're about 3 inches each.

OH COOL!! Mine are the brown ones but they are all just Dojos just a different color. I was reading in my new Loach book that Dojos are sexually mature at 4 inches :)

One is just a little bigger than the next. Any identifiers for sexing?

    $10/piece at petsmart

    I didn't leave empty handed :)

Boesmanis are $15 - I'll be getting them from aquabid at $3 plus $20 shipping

    This one, the 90.

I use pitchers to transfer and acclimate fish.

Yay! Loaches! But that is one nasty price! Actually, Liveaquaria has them for $8.49, so it isn't really that expensive.

About sexing them, the pectoral fins of the males are triangular and have sharp angles, the females have rounded pectoral fins.

Over paying for a single or pair of fish is one thing, but overpaying for a school is where it hurts. I'm glad they're happy in small school :) Thanks for the sex tip.

I have one adult by itself (unfortunately no more available locally) but the price down here was around 3 USD each (a bit less actually). It gets along quite well with my Red Salmon Rainbowfish. Lovely fish.

Anyway our fish are priceless in the end. Congrats on your new bad weather advisors!

I'll bite....how do they advise you about bad weather.
(Figuring they're not called weather loaches for nothing)

They feel the barametric pressure changes. Big changes are supposed to, ?aggrevate?, them and make them act all crazy like.

looking at them from above males have broader pectoral fins and females are fatter.

I paid $2.49 for mine at Petco :) But the golden ones are much more expensive.

When we get ready to have a storm mine swim really fast over the tank.

I've been reading about them, and I've seen sites that say you can have dojo loaches in a 30. Is this true, or do you need a bigger tank?

It's not that one can't live in a 30. They are social and need to be in groups, so 3 in a 30...

They reportedly grow to 12", but a lot of accounts I have seen say more like 8"
