Ok I know it is probably just me and as I am tired, have a headache, hiccups(? lord knows why!) a sick guppy, am skint and may have to find a new yard to keep my horse at AND am a grumpy sod BUT I don't like this new forum layout!

I know I will get used to it but oddly it feels so formal! Not open and friendly like before. It is AMAZING that the site has grown so big in the year I have been on here, great news....well done Mike.

Is it just me feeling this way? do I need to get a grip!!?? lol if so i'm sure our little bugger Flame will slap me around the chops!!

At first I was like, "If it were like then when I joined I wouldn't have joined." But Mike is doing an awesome job of accomidating everyone, I think. I have quickly grown to like the new layout ~almost~ as much, and am sure in time we'll all be so caught up in fish-talk we'll forget all about it being a different setup.

All I can say after the last few days is, Mike has the patience of a saint!

I'm on another forum that has this format, so I didn't even register the change at first... then suddenly I thought, "Didn't this used to be DIFFERENT?"

But change is difficult if you haven't had this forum before.

To tell you the sole truth, I am still not completely used to the new forum, and I did like the old forum very much. But I am beginning to like this new forum more and more every day . I feel I can like this one the same as the old one It has many more interesting features than the old one had. Plus, I agree that Mike has the patience of a saint to listen to all of our comments. He's working hard on the forum and he's changing and improving it for our own good. Lastly, I can't wait until the forum starts working FAST again.

And as much as the new toys are nice to play with it is much more secure. Which makes it easier for us to be a quality board. Don't wanna be one of those places that gets hacked and spammed with inappropriate material constantly. It is much easier, in my opinion, also to jump in and help people who have not been helped before.

(Meant to say that: Thanks for the 'unanswered posts' button Mike! )

I'm frustrated with how slow it is and all of of the issues and changes. But...I do appreciate Mike trying to make this place better and working to get issues reolved ASAP.

Must add my two cents. I can't imagine the work that goes into doing something like this! Thanks Mike. I have many of the same complaints as above, and still am not finding my way around too much, so find myself not on quite as much. Some of the changes are really great.

My question and biggest pain for me is...there seems to be a "lag time" when I am typing from when I strike the keys to it showing up on the screen. I am a fast typer,( "typing" - man, does that show my age..LOL) so maybe that is it.
When I am watching the screen, it is hard to tell where I am since it is always a word behind. Anyone else have this problem??? Or am I just toooooooo fast for my own good........LOL...

we are all experiencing the same problem. I'm not that fats, but I am now looking at the keyboard, not the screen to see what I'm writing!

Taz, I have to aggree with you slightly that the atmosphere on fishlore isn't quite the same as it used to be, + I did like the old forum very much. It doesn't feel the same to me atmbut hopefully I'll get used to it.

There's more people so it's not like it used to be, not everybody knows each other anymore, can't really change that.

On the typing lag if you do the basic like Marc suggested in your option it I don't seem to have a lag.

I'm not sure about the forum slowness, I have no problem with forum speed for me.

Taz,
My ONLY problem with this is that I LOVED the smilies....maybe too much, but they added such a touch of warmness....

To me the forum is still the forum, cause people care, and that goes for Mike, all the moderators, down to the newest members....who quickly jump in and try to help.

I could tell there were problems cropping up right before the change, so I guess something had to be done, but I just have a hard time negotiating around, and haven't found all this cool stuff that people are talking about....I'm s.l.ooooo.wwwwwwwww

Dear Fishes Auntie Michelle................I grumbled too, but when I found my "old" advisors and friends were still here and I could find them, and then figured out a few other things, and met some new folks, it is all good.............Let's each go have a glass of wine and toast our good fortune at finding this forum and these friends and especially our loveable little fish......LIFE IS GOOD!!! ps: pour your mom a glass of wine too - everythings better shared........Val

Whether we like it or not, the forum is mearly a platform of communication and debate. It doesn't really matter if it has smilies, gimmicks, tricks or a fancy look, what really matters is the people who use it.

We all got used to the old forum and were comfortable with it. We all knew exactly where everything was and how it all worked. When the new forum came along, I was one of the first to question the need for change. I hate change, espeially if it takes my time away from my "hobby". I had a rant and rave about it, picked holes in the functionality, the way it works, (or doesn't in some cases), and got fed up and frustrated, just like most of us here. But in the end, I got to realise that it's only a tool and it doesn't really matter what it looks like or what it's got, so long as it works.

This new forum works, differently to the old one in many ways, but it works. It allows us the privilege of communicating with others and sharing experiences, thoughts and dreams. It allows us to show people our photos and videos and it costs us all NOTHING!

Let's say a big thank you to Mike and the others for making this available, for without it, none of us would be friends now! Let Mike finish the work and do what needs to be done to fine-tune and tweek it for performance and comfort. Most of all, let's all stay a part of this wonderful and rapidly growing community of FishLore!

Better forum

I usually don't like change.. but I suppose the tech monkey in me liked the new changes right off.. Tim's right on with his post and Mike must have pure :;co running thru his veins by now.. we'll all get comfortable with this new software and enjoy all the new features we get as the bugs get worked out.
