New fish with ich. :-(

Hi! I've got a new goldfish yesterday, and today I've notice it has ich. Should I treat the whole tank or just the sick fish? Thanks!

Treat the whole tank if it is in the main tank.

 

I'd use the heat method. . . meds can be harsh on the fish.

 

In my experience it takes time to spread from one to another, use a bucket, a bubbler you don't mind turning blue(depending on treatment) and use a treatment. Goldfish are coldwater. =]

Ps, heat accelerates diseases unless 86* I've heard, and 50% waterchange daily.

 

That's the point of raising the heat with ich. It accelerates the lifecycle of the ich which ends in it dropping off the body. Frequent gravel vacuuming is needed to take these ich spores out.

 

Learning️ Is heat treatment safe for coldwater fish? Especially if you need to temp change from 60* to 86*?

 

Since it's only for a short time I imagine it would be but I don't keep coldwater fish so that's a good question.

Hmm, a quick survey of goldfish sites seems to indicate that heat treatment is indeed safe for goldies

Well, it was for about 20 hrs on the main tank, and then I place it on a QT tank with a bubbler.

I'm applying Jungle Ick Clear Fizz Tabs now. But I wonder. .once I see the white spots fall from my fish... how long should I wait to place it back on the main tank?
