Just got 2 dwarf Gouramis for my brother’s new tank they both were in the same tank in the store. The Flame looks fine the powdered blue fella has this fungus? Or worm? What should I get to treat it?

Is it missing a fin? It also looks a bit bloated. Try doing a water change and add aquarium salt for the fungus. If you have inverts or scaleless fish use it at 1/2 dose

It is not missing a fin it’s just how the picture turned out. Is it indeed fungus?

Yes I’m pretty sure it’s a type of fungus

Thanks so much! Should I treat the whole tank or just the one fish? The only thing in the tank is amazon sword with a few other plants and some snails. The other gourami doesn’t appear to have anything on him.

Treat only the dwarf gourami. Salt is not good for snails

100% you should put him in a separate tank away from the others until you can figure out what it is.

I’ve been doing salt dips with API freshwater aquarium salt for 10 minutes twice a day. The gourami is looking better fungus wise but now there’s this big discolored area. Is this just the healing or am I doing something wrong?

Also the fungus was originally more brown and is turning more white and I’m seeing a small amount of decrease in it overall

keep treating until it’s gone and do more water changes. Do salt baths for 20-30 minutes

May I express my doubts that this will have any positive results?

It worked after 2 days so I thought it will still do something. Would there be anything negative?

No but as said I doubt there will be any positive as well.

I've now read thousands of threads like this. There should seriously be an importban on DG's soon. A disaster is going on in these fish.

Thousands? I probably haven’t even viewed one thousand threads on any topic. Doesn’t have to be in import ban but making them illegal to sell would also work. Disaster is also happening with neon tetras and starting with panda corydoras as you probably already know.

I’ll put the fish back in the salt dip. I’m thinking of just setting up a bare tank till it clears up especially because I have another one in the tank that isn’t sick yet. The only problem is all I have is a spare tank without a filter or heater.

Honestly it’s because all the pet stores are getting them from the same source over seas. Inbreeding May also be weakening these fish as well but the way these fish are breeding is on an industrial scale in huge ponds... I’m just hoping I can get this fella cleaned up.

Dwarf Gourami Disease (or better it being unknown at the Dutch forum) was the reason I joined international forums in 2013. After two days at a British forum someone came up with this cause of hundreds and hundreds of dead DG's.

Since then I serious have seen thousands of them around the world. Problem is that every dead fish means a replacement.

That is also why I advise to euthanise quite fast in these cases. I believe in only one case a DG recovered (probably a different issue).

It really is an underestimated disaster.

One of the worst parts of the aquarium industry

Sometime ago I asked for a subforum about this disease so all cases would be listed in order to get an oversight.

It was denied.

You can ask for sub forums? A sub forum for dgd would be very helpful

Would you guys suggest moving the sick guy to a 1 gallon tub I have set up for salt? I don’t have an extra filter or heater but my house is at 77 and I could do 50% water changes daily and just add half the recommended salt back into the water. The other gourami in there is a different breed but I don’t want them both sick.

I don’t think she’s going to make the night... she’s looking pretty weak right now just resting on the bottom not doing any movement but gulping.

I wonder if dwarf gouramis were breed in a tank laced with pre-exposure prophylaxis if the number of virus ridden fish would decrease, or some other anti-viral.
