Ive just bought a fish from the lfs with dropeye (he clearly wasn't going to be treated there and was alone)
I thought I'd take a chance on him and try get him healthy again. Other than drop eye he seems perfectly fine, hes currently in quarantine
Just a few questions,
1.is dropeye curable?
2. Is it contagious?
3. Will it be okay being added into the tank, will other fish be affected?
4. Will dropeye kill him?
I hope he makes a full recovery
Thanks for any replies

What kind of fish is it and can you post a photo or two? Usually when the eye is droopy, as in it seems the fish is always looking down, it is due to extra fat behind the fish's eye. So no worries about it be contagious. More of a cosmetic problem than a life threatening one. I've seen youtube videos of people surgically fixing it in their prized fish like arowana but really it shouldn't impact the fish's life too much.

My mistake, I keep calling it dropeye, it's actually popeye, and Its a type of barb, think it's called a red sided barb

Ok that changes things Popeye is usually caused be a fungal or bacterial infection, most often it seems to be due to either poor water quality, a minor injuring becoming infected, or a combination of both.

Can you post a picture of the bad eye? If it isn't too bad I'd say try some epsom salt baths to reduce swelling. If it is cloudy and nasty looking then I'd move the fish to a quarantine tank/bucket (with a heater and air stone) and treat with a fungal med (most fungal meds will treat bacterial problems too).

He won't stay still enough for a picture, will it be contagious to my other fish? I will quarantine him and treat him but if it doesn't get noticeably better can he go back in? He seems healthy other than the eye problem and he's very active
