New fish and bully Danios

HI all

Firstly thankyou for all your advice on my problems with my fish in cycle. After a few weeks my tank readings are great all 0 except Nitrate at 10.

My local fish shop agreed and tested my water so finally some new fish.

Got 6 tiny neon tetras and a honey gourami, the problem is my 3 zebra danios are going mental, chasing the tetras who are now hiding in the corner of the tank at the bottom.

I also wanted to add a red betta at a later date but was advised the zebras would nip it and stress it out.

question is should I take the zebras back as I feel the tank is too small for them as they are super active and they are not letting any other fish get a look in.

Tank is 64L

3 zebra danios
6 baby neon tetras
1 honey gourami

cheers

paul

I do believe your tank is overstocked, which will cause aggression issues like this to occur. However, another problem is that you only have 3 danios. Most schooling fish need a minimum of 6 per tank, and danios may become nippy when their numbers are too low.

The tank is overstocked. I think you should bring back the danios or the tetras. The size is destroying the peacefulness so they "fight" for territory. As long as the honey gourami is not involved the gourami ok....to stay

The red betta would die as the the gourami would fight the betta, and bettas are weaker.

I'd return the danios, 64 litres really isn't big enough for them as they're super active fish, the gourami & neons are ok in there but I wouldn't add a betta as they & gourami generally don't get along.

Thanks for the advice all, the danios I donated to the shop tonight and already the tank is much more peaceful , tetras are out in the middle now and the honey is doing a great cleaning job .

is there room for 1 more breed of fish you think ? male Guppys or such like maybe ?

regards

paul

I think it's best you leave it where it is now. Your tank is fully stocked.
