New filter cartridge

I was rinsing a new filter cartridge in a small bowl of tank water because the old one is falling apart. After rinsing the new one, I was going to put some of the old filter floss from the old cartridge into the new one, but the water turned a blackish light grey. I think it’s from the carbon dust, but I could be wrong.

 

You dont have to put it in it. You can just put it in the filter with the new one. Yes the black is from the carbon.

No put the new one in, tear the cloth from the old one and put it in the filter behind the new one or wherever you can.
