New endler/guppy hybrids

So I went to my fav LFS and they had 'guppies' in stock (10 for 1.50$!) There are def an endler hybrid. They are so darn cute and small I bought me some. Although I shouldn't have. It was really hard to take a pic but I tried. I got 3 males and 2 females. The females are so pregnant! I'm excited I've never had any livebearer fry since all my others are males.

Cute! I love my hybrids.

You may run into problems with the males constantly chasing the females and stressing them out. You may have to get some more if you tank allows.

This cute boy actually looks more like a wild Trinidadian reticulata, commonly referred to as "feeder" guppy. They're really just like Endler's in many ways, and there are people who believe that wingeI are actually reticulata.

I've thought about getting some from our friend at the lab who brings them back from Trinidad to study them, but my tanks are seriously full already...

Yeah they were feeder guppies I'm sure with a price like that lol but I loved the endler colorings! I love endlers! You saw I have some cobra hybrids in my ten gallon! I'm excited to see what the babies will look like when born! It should be pretty soon now.

And the males will probably go into the 10 with the cobras here soon. I have them in a 2.5 temporarily and I have another one of those I was setting up to be a shrimp tank. Do you think they will eat rcs babies?

Would it be wrong to try and breed the females with my cobras? (later down the line of course, I don't want to stress them out with so many pregnancies) I would really like to see how they turn out?

They're likely to eat the baby RCs, so I wouldn't chance that unless you have an excess of shrimp. I myself would think it heavenly to go to a place with all-you-can-eat fresh shrimp on the menu

I think crossing the wild Trinidadians with the cobra Endler hybrids would be a fun experiment. So long as you're prepared to deal with lotsa lotsa fry :b

Darn guess I will hold off on the shrimp for now since they are in the shrimp tank lol. And yeah I can deal with a lot of fry. I can try to sell them and if no one wants them I will give them away to my mom and sister or local fish club members. Someone will want them lol. If I knew how to ship fish I would give them away on here lol

Thanks for all your help. You will be my go to person for endlers lol.

Quick question: will these guys eat their own babies?

Quick question: will these guys eat their own babies?

They might. Some strains of reticulata are more cannibalistic than others. With Endler's, it varies from tank to tank. I've had some tans of girls eat almost everyone and others not touch any. I think more fry survive when there are males to interrupt the hunting.

But you're going to get so many babies that you shouldn't worry about keeping them with the adults because enough are likely to survive to keep you busy. It is a good way to cull weaker swimmers. I just can't stand to watch them do it, personally :b

They seem to peck at every little thing even right after feeding so I'm thinking they will eat them lol I just worry that they will eat them all. I don't think I could watch them either. It's rather gruesome to think about it lol
