New EHEIM thermocontrol has bubbles coming out of top

I put an EHEIM thermocontrol in my tank & bubbles are slowly coming out of the top. I haven't plugged it in and the tube does not seem to be getting water in it, but what the heck? Is this okay?

I would be concerned. You can try and put it into a bucket for testing purposes. You still have the receipt? I would return/exchange it. Better safe than sorry.

Yes definitely exchange it, that's not right. It should be a sealed unit.

There are deceivingly real looking cheap copies out there on the market. This could point in that direction.
