So I get home after work I wash up and go to do my daily tank routines. when I noticed in my 20 gallon there was eggs on the glass from my corydora that I moved yesterday to a different tank. So as I'm in there fishing out my platy cuz I know they'll eat the eggs lo and behold there's fry swimming around from the platy. The eggs are still in the 20 gallon I took all the fry could see and put them in my 10-gallon with my other fry ... oh and also almost forgot my white skirt tetras lay eggs this morning I don't know how many you're going to make it but they're in there. Sorry this is kind of a long post but it caught me by surprise and I'm excited!! The crazy thing is only have one corydora I know I know I'm supposed to have more and I'm soon to get something this supposed to be arriving any day but I've had her over almost 2 months now. And I've had my platy for most definitely over 2 months and all I have are females.

Yea lol I have another ten gallon ima set up for now but I'm going to get them to a good home . They did eat most of the platy fry but only the strong make it . And I think ima get rid of most the cory cats and keep a small school in my 20 gallon I'm not going to pull any more fry or eggs out after this one ! That's for sure I don't have enough time to keep up with it at this point

Yes! Fry are very time consuming. Rewarding by time consuming

Since you only have the one cory the eggs won't hatch. If it were me I would go ahead and let the fish eat them before they start growing fungus. I would think the eggs would be a welcome treat for them.

Congratulations on all your other babies. It is always exciting to find new life in our tanks.

I've only had the cory for like 2 months and the little research I did said that they can hold their eggs .

Ok have just done a little (2hrs) of reading and it turns out that Cory cats have been known to be Polyploidy organisms meaning they can carry a set of genes from both parents and carry 3 or more sets of chromosomes, this can result in many developmental changes including asexual reproduction

This is a new one for me. Please let us know if these do hatch.

edited to add: I did some follow-up reading on this and it seems some eggs have hatched with no male present at the time so I am now anxiously waiting to see if it happens this time too. As my sig. says one is never too old to learn something new.

This is true . Idk if some will hatch or not but after reading more the eggs just seemed more and more unlike fish food lol . But I will keep posted and we will find out together !

Idk I have read a lot about it and some say they're needed and some say they've experienced just females laying eggs and hatching so I don't know for sure I'm leaning more towards the side that they don't hatch but I'm just going to hold on to them for the correct amount of time just to see...

Cories practice internal fertilization, so it's possible the cory mated before you bought it and is just now laying eggs.

I thought that all egg layers had the eggs fertilized after they were laid not while they were inside the female...I learned something new today.

Ah contraire, my friend! Cories practice internal fertilization via the 'T' position. It may be a tad rude to describe on here, but it's not hard to look up - it's quite interesting.

So did I. I can't find any information on how long she can hold the sperm or how long it is viable though.

If these cory eggs hatch we can assume she can hold it or at least fertile eggs for at least a couple of months.
