New Dogs...trying to help.......UP DATED Pics

As you all know I have a zoo......13 tanks,11 dogs, 3 persians, and 13 birds(parrots)...well the list has been added to for now.....

MY favorite LFS does everything....they are involved with their own dog rescue...they try soooooooooo hard. They had an adoption day 2 weeks ago and I was asked to come and help walk dogs...so of course I went. I was there all day...The did manage to find forever homes for 3 dogs...so it was a great day.

When I first got there, I saw this dog with a woman walking him....I thought he was hers...he was just so well behaved and just so in tune with her. I had no idea. She actually works a full time job and also does a rescue out of her home.Naturally we got talking......This dog is 2 years old, was found with 2 litter mates in a dumpster as babies.....2 years ago she took them all in and found forever homes for them....."Duke" has been with an elderly woman since that time.About 6 months ago his owner suffered major strokes.....she laid on her floor for 3 days and Duke never left her side. She can no longer walk and her family has taken her out of the stae to stay with them. Thankfully they contacted the original rescuer and she has had him ever since. this story just broke my heart. I also knew why he watched her her carefully....I really think they know when a person saves them. I know he has rotty in him and we are positive sharpaI also(?). Having rottys for over 20 years....what could I do???????

Of course he has found his forever home with us. He has been one of the BEST animals I have ever brought into my home. Completely polite and housebroken, loves walks, etc.....The most amazing thing is that he has not left my husbands side. None of you really know this but my husband was diagnossed with cancer last year...has had major surgery...and is hopefully on the mend.A lot has changed, hes better but not healthy and doesn't do a lot....one of the reasons I wanted to bring Duke home was I figured it would get Mike out walking......well hes done that and more!!!!!! I told the rescue woman I can't even measure what Duke has done for us......(Mike)..opening our home is nothing comparred. For whatever reason I think he knows something just isn't right with Mike....even when Mike goes to get the mail...he sits and cries at the door. He will come and see me...but just for a "pet" then right back to Mike.

I want You all to know that Duke wasn't just handed over to us......that's a great feeling also....the rescue woman told me there were a few other prospects.....but she had a feeling aobut us.

The first pic is of believe it or not a dachshund/pit of all things mix.....hard to believe but true. Not very careful owner.....her mother died giving birth..I have been bottle-feeding her for 2 weeks. She is also in their rescue program. I'm just helping the rescuer out because of her schedule. LOL....I forgot what the nite time feeding are like!!!!!

She is doing awesome and has fineally gotten some teeth.Once I get her weaned she too will be placed up for adoption.....this will be a hard one...of course Ive fallen in love, and have made her rotten already!!!!!!!

Way to go Lori!

I know what a caring Mom you are to all of your critters! Love the pups!

Hopefully Mike will continue to make progress and beat this nasty disease! Lots of prayers coming your way!

Dogs know more than we give them credit for sometime. Cats too!

It doesn't surprise me one bit that your new dog seems to 'sense' something wrong with your hubby. I saw a show on TV once about possibly training certain dogs to 'scent' cancers, just like they do with drugs and explosives. I've not seen any more info on it, but the dogs on the program certainly seemed to know what they were doing!

Wow, that's a lot of animals, but Congrats! Duke sounds amazing! There aren't a ton of dogs like him, but they're worth their weight in gold(and they sometimes weigh a LOT ;D). The tiny puppy is absolutely adorable!

Awwwwww I want to see the pup when she gets older. That's an interesting mix. I wanna know how that happened. Lol

You did a great thing for these animals. Duke seems amazing. When I was diagnosed with depression and anorexia, my dog never left my side. He also wouldn't let anyone touch me while I layed around all day being mopey. Dogs are wonderful creatures

Sadly, my cat has a personality like me. She doesn't like to be bothered and gives you this mean look when you call her name. Lol. She's lazy and spoiled as well

Well done, dogs seem to attach to those that need them. Same with other animals I have found. Gald he was able to come in and help the family out as well. These things are at times just meant to be.

Happy zookeeping lol

Lori,
wow, thank god for people like you! My mom and I are the same type of people, only I currently don't have the means to rescue in numbers! If I lived closer to you I would definetly consider adopting that little pup. I have a 14 month old dachshund and I think pits are wonderful misunderstood dogs. I am sure you will find her a lovely home.

Duke's relationship with your husband is incredible. I am glad to hear he is on the mend, and taht duke has been helping him

So... I'm sure you've gotten a thousand messages already, but... any adoption volunteers for the new pup? If she already has a future home, then awesome, but if she doesn't...

What about Adela?

I always think if I ever had a daughter, I'd name her Adela.

Pronounced - Uh-Dell-Uh < Like Adele, but Adela.

How about Brielle? My sister and I wanted to name our cat that, but Dad outlawed it when he found out it meant "Exalted Goddess".. I still think it would have fit the cat perfectly
Or Kalia? it's Hawaiian for "Beautiful", and I think it sounds pretty, too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing her with a name that starts with a 'B.' What name, I couldn't tell you... LOL

well, I've always liked malarky as a dog's name, but if she's not tricky or mischievous then it wouldn't really fit. I kind of like Risky, thinking of how she was born.

If you're set on "b"
A friend of mine named his dog Brigantine, and calls her Briggy; but that's because she tipped his canoe while trying to rescue him from a big scary fish, and because she's always causing trouble.
I kind of like Bessie, or flower names (Bluebell, buttercup, etc), for more chill dogs, but those are sort of... names that people name cows.

Well Thanks everyone!!!!!!!I kind of think the poor thing is gonna be stck with Meesha....she now comes to it......I also kind of think that shes gonna be "stuck" here with us.......I think the rescue lady forgot about her.......but that's fine I have become overly attached to her.....she even sits, asks to go out and sleeps as close to me as she can get......lol...no more rescuing for me...lol....especially an unweaned baby.......lol...she never leaves my side....my husband even said the other day.....THATS YOUR dog....just the way she acts.

Oh, what a problem. How can I get a problem like her? ;D
She's so ADORABLE! Good luck with her smarts, though, they might make life more interesting as she get's older. We had a dog who figured out a way to get at some chocolate cake and some chicken and make it sound like he went outside. Luckily, someone was watching him in a mirror, so even though he glanced to make sure no one was actually looking before opening the screen door and letting it slam, he didn't get anything.

I work at a dog shelter and we had someone drop off a dog named Meesha one time! lol. I don't know if you're still considering names, but we also had a dog that was named Brenna. I love that name.

Also, your pup is very cute!
