I actually had the very same idea (minus the cool tea theme lol) a while back, but didn't end up doing it as I couldn't find a glass (or plastic) drink dispenser that was clear enough for my liking (most of the ones around here have that sort of textured glass or are just cheap / poor quality and would probably leak). I was going to fill the bottom with larger gravel (up past the tap) that the water would flow through, or if the water was flowing out too slowly, I'd put a layer of filter foam underneath the gravel (much like an undergravel filter would work). Would love to see the final product Good luck with it.
Okay, here is the result:

Yup, finding the right dispenser is hard, especially with several prefab aquariums in easy reach at the LFS. It took me almost six months to find the right dispenser and took a chance with this one. I can find the amazon link for ya if you are keen to do it. Also I realized that these dispensers become available during the early summer, at the least around here. I was going to fill up from the bottom to the over the top of the spigot too until the sage advice and brainstorming from NYFishGuy go me going to build a PVC platform. The tea theme originates from Fishcat and it inspired me to just make the theme about drinks and tea. The DIY filter started with questions, musings and advice at the very beginning of the planning stage from phoensunfire and aosuna11 and then after assembly comments from rainbowsprinkles. Think that is everyone but all other fishlorists comments and likes and votes on the pole are greatly appreciated. Now the wait of fishless cycling. I won't bore everyone with the ups and downs of my water condition. I will however announce when things are ready and Fishday with posts of new Betta...so hold your breadth for at least a month....

I think psalm18.2 had something similar to what you’re putting together.

Looks good to me. I guess I would test it first to make sure there is proper flow. Mine works!!! I just set it up and because my substrate created a huge cloud, the filter works because now the tank is clear (after 48 hours) and there is black substrate powder caught in the floss part. .

My diy seems to be working too- crystal clear water!

And I just found this in a closet..2.5 g I think.. now I’m tempted.. how is yours working out?

rainbowsprinkles Looks awesome! I am glad your DIY filter is working. I am about a week now into the cycling process I had a nitrite spike yesterday a tiny one at 0.5ppm and my ammonia is now down from 4ppm to between 1-2ppm. I have a second miniature DIY with the same design running off the same air pump. So things are starting out slowly but well. I also added Seachem Stability at the beginning of the process. The filters are now bubbling up and the anacharis and anubias are both still alive. Since I am getting drops in Ammonia and increases in nitrite, I am going to say the filters and tank is working ;-)

Thank you for your patience!!! New Betta Splenda has arrived. Following the the tea theme his name is Mandarin Rose (named after ). He is supposed to be a Super Deta Tail. I splurged but noticed how much more fish stores are charging for Bettae but their habitat in store remains the same or are now even worse. The sales person flicked on each habitat and screamed at them to perform... I endured similar experiences under the command of drill instructors, had a minI PTSD moment in the store. I picked the least showy, thinnest Betta, happens to be a beautiful pink rose colored beauty. Here he is:

I am doing manual drip acclimatization by putting 2-3ml of tank water into the bag every 5 minutes over the next two hours. Will post pix once Mandarin Rose is in situ.
