Hi, Please could I get some advice. I bought my betta yesterday from the pet shop, his fins look like their rolled up. Is this normal? Will they unfold as he gets bigger? Or is he Ill? I've only owned an older betta that fins were stunning. He is in a 30 litre tank, 26 °c, all levels great. He is swimming and eating. As mentioned I bought him like this.

Could you copy\paste the emergency template to your post then fill it out? It will give us more information about your fishy.

From the picture, he has his fins clamped, which is a sign of mine underlining problem. Is his tank cycled?

If you just got him yesterday, give him some time to adjust to his new environment. His fins could be clamped because of the move and change. I would give him a few days to get used to his new home before getting too worried personally.

It makes sense that the fins would just be clamped from stress. Give him a week or so, keep the temp stable at 78-80 = 25.5-26.5 Make sure its eating. Consider getting some frozen blood worms for extra protein 2 days a week. You can also save money if you buy zoo meds can o worms and freeze the leftovers. He should come around, good luck!

It will probably be stressed from being moved to new surroundings but I also think your tank is not properly cycled.
A tank usually takes much longer than 7 days to cycle.

You don't know your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate though. A good test kit is probably going going be essential to keep a track of the nitrogen cycle from here.

Unless you moved the substrate and filter media from another tank, your tank will not cycle in seven days. Click the link to see how to cycle. Do you have a test kit so to that you can test the water perimeters?

Thank you. As mentioned he looked like this when I bought him in the pet shop. I've rung the shop and they said they were moving alot of stock around before I picked him up and its probably stress. I will keep a close eye. I have a test kit and the tank was used previously so emptied an ran for 7 days to clear then tested ect Thank you all x
Emptied of fish not water, the waters been partially changed at 2day intervals then tested
