New Betta With Cyst

I went to the store today to look at the bettas and ended up buying one for my empty 10 gallon. I believe he has an eye tumor and know nothing can be done if it really is but I still want him to be happy and live a long happy life. It doesn’t seem to bug him since it’s still pretty small. If anyone knows if there is a way to fix this (or if it isn’t actually a tumor) any help is appreciated. I also know his back tail needs some work. Just hoping with plenty of water changes it will grow back.

Looks more like a fluid bubble, or cyst, than a tumor. Not solid. Probably just an infection that got into the skin under the scales. =D

Thank god!!! I looked up some pictures from another forum and everyone said a similar thing looked like a tumor. I want to let him settle in for a few days and then try to treat it. Would something like a salt bath help?

Hey. This little guy needed a rescue. Thank you for being there. What and who do you have in the tank with him? If no invertebrates or live plants, you can add some dissolved aquarium salt to the tank. 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of actual water. Once you have the salt dissolved, take a swab, dip in the salt water and gently dab the lump. Don’t mash it, just try to get a feel of how hard or mushy it is. Let us know. Ok?

He has a small BN pleco and 3 nerite snails with live plants.
I was thinking about moving him to a bucket for a little while to give him the salt bath. The bump seems to have gone down overnight since I added him to this tank so hopefully it will go away completely soon. I’ll try to do the salt bath in a few hours.

The Bristlenose will eventually have to be put in a bigger tank, and probably should soon- they use a 25g minimum, partially because of terrortorial needs. They also need to be fed, even if it is just an algae wafer or two every second day, since scraps and natural algae alone aren't enough. They also need driftwood, which can be too sharp for a betta.

I’m moving him into a 36 gallon very soon. He gets fed fresh vegetables and algae wafers. I have driftwood in the tank with some moss covering the sharp edges so my bettas fins don’t get torn.

=D What kind of moss do you use? I could do with some for my tank, even though my betta doesn't get hurt on mine I think my shrimp would love it.

I actually just bought a moss ball but it ended up breaking into a moss mat thing and I tied it onto the wood

The cyst is almost completely gone after a few days and a salt bath but the eye still looks cloudy. I’m assuming it’s some sort of infection. Will this go away in time or should I keep trying salt baths to try to clear it?

I'd keep treating until it's fully gone, just so it won't fare up again.

Super clean warm water should help immensely. The salt baths will help keep any infections from starting. But the clean warm water is the best treatment. Keep updating please?
