New Betta glass surfing

I picked up a Super Delta Betta on Saturday and have placed his in my 10 gallon column (fully cycled) with albeit just a few plants - but since amost day one he's been doing a ton of glass surfing. I suspect he may be seeing his reflection at times, but he doesn't flare. He just goes up and down, back and forth.

He'll eat (blood worms), He does sometimes rest down on the bottom - he'll explore every so often. But he's doing this for a couple hours every day.

Is this normal behavior for a new Betta?

Tank readings :

Ammonia/nitrite- 0ppm
Nitrate - ~5ppm
Ph - 8.2
KH/GH - about 8-9
Temp - 78

Here's a video :

I'm hoping I'm just paranoid...

very beautiful betta! how did you acclimate him in? do you happen do see any white spots like ich maybe? if not theres no ich and since your tank is cycled, theres a good chance he is just seeing his reflection and thats what it really seems like to me.

I would add in some Indian Almond Leaves and some Roobios tea to release some tannin that way the water can be tinted a little bit to help his reflection. also Tannin helps provide antibacterial properties to bettas slime coats. It also wouldn't hurt to add in some floating plants for him to explore and see if that distracts him.

Thanks Blueberrybetta - for acclimation, I didn't really do much outside of ensuring the temp of the bag matched the aquarium. The water quality at my LFG that I got him from matched mine, so i didn't much outside of that.

no signs of ick or velvet that I can see - its tough when his scales are already white... but I don't see any on the tail or face. I'll keep an eye out though - he hasn't been rubbing against anything.

I didn't even think of the almond leaf - reading a few other posts it here, they also suggest the same thing. makes sense with the tannin in the water - so I ordered some. I appreciate the reply!

Maybe this just me, but when I got my betta, he didn't stop glass surfing for about a week and a half, so to me, what is happening with your betta is normal. IMO.

Sounds like completely normal behavior for a Betta who is new to his environment. he’s never seen more than a gallon of water in his life. It’ll take him a minute to learn his new boundaries. Nothing to worry about
