New Betta Fin Help

Hi, just got a new betta the other day and after last night I observed the tank this morning and I noticed that he had torn his fin over the night. There’s nothing dangerously sharp in the tank I can think of. I know that they can do it to themselves too possibly sometimes. Will it heal on its own? Should I purchase some medication to help? If so what kind would you recommend? I’ll post some before and after shots so you know what I’m dealing with. I’ll also add here that he has an unusual lump that slightly sticks out on his left side. Any thoughts?

He might be a fin bitter. Fin bitting can be from stress or just genetics. Keep watching him for any further damge to the fins. If you’re worried about the possibility of fin rot do a salt dip. There are tons of instructional vidoes on youtube to help you.

OK thanks, I just got him yesterday, so slI'm chance it’s fin rot, but could potentially develop into that. I saw that some people use garlic juice, the salt method, or just let it be and keep clean water. If it gets any worse I’ll decide on the best treatment. Thanks for your feedback!

To me it looks like tearing. The rips end at a point and the rays still seem to be there. While when they bite, the "rips" (I don't know what else to call them) end with a curved shape, like a bite. There's also usually missing rays. Just keep his water clean to heal them up.

Aqurium salt doesn't really do anything for fin rot anyway it's mostly used for velvet and ich. As it irritates the skin generating the fish's slime coat
