New Baby Betta! Need Suggestions

I adopted this little guy from a lady today who couldn't take care of him anymore (she travels too much) I don't really know much about him, just that she got him from Petco about a week or two ago and then realized she didn't have the time to keep pets. He's my first baby Betta and just starting to settle down on his new 5 gallon tank. He has a few perches(that keep falling off the side of the tank) and hiding holes.
Are their any special paramets he might need?
Anyone know what type of Betta he is?
Got any name suggestions?

Just keep the parameters the same as you would any fish, little nitrates and zero ammonia or nitrites. make sure the temp is around 80 too.

With that tail he's going to be a double tail, but any other specifics you'll have to wait on until he matures.

I'll be back with name suggestions.

oooh, looks like they're a double tail!! that's cool. as for gender, tail type and colour, you'll have to wait until it gets older. it looks like it might be a plakat though. I have a double tail plakat from petco that has a similar long dorsal fin. that's exciting!!

just make sure you keep your water pristine (0 ammonia and nitrites, low nitrates) and heated to around 80 degrees.

midnayou're double tail is gorgeous!!
I have this little guy in a 5 gallon filtered and heated tank that I had left over from when I brought my first betta home. My other guy has a nice big 30 gallon now. I'll stop by the store tomorrow and pick up some live plants for him too.
I think he's a double tail, my other guy is a vail tail and the bodies a fins look pretty different.

This is my other little guy in the big tank.

Once he settles in to the tank those stress stripes should disappear. When you add the plants that'll help too. Personally, I'd wait until his colors start to show before picking a name. I base names on looks though. Lol

Oh my God, I love these names! I'm going to save this list, wait for his colors to come through a little more and then choose one based on how his looking and what kind of personality he's got.

He's definitely starting to settle in well. He's starting to look bright and perky now.

That’s what I typically do as well, it’s nice to be able to more accurately pick a name once you get know them a little more. If you want more ideas just let me know!

Oh he’s going to be even prettier once he grows up, you’ll have to post some pics once he’s older. I always love seeing baby-adult!

Small update:
We had a kink in the road when his heater almost boiled him and then almost turned him into an ice cube.
I have replaced his heater. He is now swimming at a cool 80 degrees
He LOVES his perches and his blood worms. He's very shy but extremely curious about the mystery snail clutch in the tank.
Name is still pending.

That’s happened to me before. I out a heater in my bettas tank, it got to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and killed him less than a day after I got him.

Awe, poor little guy! Glad you got it fixed. I hate it when heaters mess up, they cause so many problems when that happens.

I named my very small doubletail Comet.
Heres from the pet store and then happy at home.

May I ask why you believe him to be a delta? He has two distinct lobes, which would be a double tail. Deltas would only have one “lobe” and be slightly bigger than a vt, which is not the case here.

Lest you were talking about OP’s other betta?-

thank you! uhhh he just... swims around???! lol idk. there were a couple hiccups when I first got him (he got a couple little tears from the driftwood in his tank until I filed it down a second time), but there hasn't been any problems since. my new halfmoon betta, on the other hand, just got his fins all shredded

I think my little baby is starting a bubble nest? He really likes blowing bubbles in the corner of his tank under one of the plant leafs. I'm not sure if baby bettas typically make bubble nests though. I've only seen fully grown bettas do this.

His colors are really starting to come in and he's definitely growing! He is still confused about the algae pellets for the mystery snails but he loves to play with them. He's quite the prankster.

Baby update:
I have named this little man Hypnos after the Greek God of sleep.
He recently moved into his permanent home, a 10 gallon planted aquarium of his very own right on my night stand, the only other things I have in this tank are some baby mystery snails that hatched last week. He's a very gentle and friendly soul. watching him swimming around in his new home is so soothing it helps calm my insomnia.
He LOVES his bloodworms and he's almost doubled in size since I brought him home. I'm afraid this pictures don't do him justice. He doesn't stay still for too long where I can see him really well. He likes to perch on or under the plant leaves.

Update:
Hypnos is getting bigger! I'm pretty sure he's a double tail with the way his fins seem to be growing.
He's very curious. He likes to watch people and the baby mystery snails.

Yes that's a Double tail.

Teach him to hunt snails, Every now and then partially squish one and he will eat it, as he gets more confident squish a snail on the glass or substrate near him he will quickly learn that snails taste nice and are there for the taking.

Lol, it’s not a meme. It’s the “little fox” constellation.
