New Addition, Fin Nipping

I just added, from my quarantine tank, my dwarf gourami to my existing 20 gallon danio/cory tank. I was expecting some minor hostility, as two of my zebra danios are somewhat dominant over the others. Anticipating this, I fed them in advance, did a water change, and completely reconfigured the tank to throw them off. However, the poor new guy is just getting eaten alive.

Any advice? Is there really anything I can do at this point?

 

My guess is either they are being territorial and trying to establish boundaries or something.. can't tell you a solution but I'm sure someone else will come by and help better!

 

If the Danios are that dominant there isn't a whole lot you can do. Sometimes like with Tiger Barbs increased numbers quells the aggression a bit. I have a school of 35 Tiger barbs and they are pretty relaxed most of the time. Your Dwarf Gourami is in for some stress though, Id get it out of there.

 

I would put the Gourami back into QT.
Imho they are not compatible anyway. Gouramis like still waters with lots of cover and floating plants, whereas zebra danios thrive in fast flowing water with not too much obstruction.

Agreed. In the meantime I netted the two alpha danios to give the gourami a break. He gets along fine with the others of course

Gourami is back by himself. Since that catastrophe happened, anyone have any ideas on what other fish it would get along with in a 30 gallon? I had been planning on just doing a neon tetra tank for my living room, but that won't work with this guy in the equation now.

Try upping them to 8 so they have more of themselves to pick on instead of other fish.
