NEW 75 gallon aquarium thinking of a oscar fish .I Needs some help :)

I got very luck today and traded my old bike for a 75 gallon aquarium .The bad news is that my 3-5 inch Oscar died because it was in a 26 gallon aquarium. He was sick and could't take it.Rip mr.oscar . Lots of people are going to say bad things about me keeping him ,But I was trying very hard to get him a big fish tank .I felt like a horribly person. I should of asking my mom to take it back..any ways I got a new 75 gallon aquarium and I will need to ask some question .I am looking to get a oscar fish in 2013 - 2014 My mom dad always had oscar fish ( but his fish was in a 75 gallon-100 gallon ) .We believe it gives us luck,My mom told me when I was young that the fish will eat the evil spirit . I want to get the best info so I can build up and make my fish happy

Could I go bear bottom for the 75 gallon aquarium ?
Will it be ok to use a aqu clear 200 filter and a aqu clear 30 gallon filter when I set it up ?
When I have the money what type of filter will be good for it ? I don't like slump very much !
How long can a oscar fish live in a 75 gallon aquarium before I have to give it away ?
What type of lid can I make for the 75 gallon ?
Will it be ok to keep 1 oscar by it self ? Will it get lonely ? ( I like to have 1 oscar )

I'm no expert on oscars but I think one oscar could live in the 75 gallon by its self its whole life. wait for more responses to be sure. 75 gallon would deff be a min tank size.

bare bottom tanks are fine. there much easier to keep clean. I would spray paint the outside of the bottom of the tank. this will help him to not see his reflection making him feel more comfortable.

get a canister filter they are great. here is a canister that is reasonably priced, here is a link.

those other filters will work tell you can get a better one.

75 gallons is the perfect size for 1 Oscar. If you're ok with have one (Awesome) fish in a tank, this would be the perfect size.

Oscars need heavy filtration. I highly recommend a canister. They are a little more expensive but so worth it.

The HOT canisters are a little small. I've got an Aquatop400 that I'm happy with. Fluval makes some good ones. Eheim is also know for making good canister filters. I'm pretty cascade is another good brand.

A 300 watt Aqueon Pro would do the job nicely.

I got my 55 gallon tank used and it didn't have a lid. I am currently using some leftover 1/4" plexI from some computer projects to sit on the top channels. You could either do something like that or buy some glass canopy lids online ( example )

As a side note, in the future if you find yourself w/o a tape measure, just grab a sheet of paper from your printer and know that the long side is 11" long just lay it across and estimate that way. It won't be exact, but will be close enough

I have one of these inline heaters (the 200w) on my 125 gallon and it is keeping it heated without turning on to much but my room is usually at a good temp. I should work great on a 75g. just make sure the canister filter has the same size hoses.

I have not used the fulval canisters yet.

The one thing I have found with larger tanks Is I like to have two slightly smaller heaters, the work less and therefor cost less to run. It also gives you a backup in case one fails.

I also like the aquatop canisters for short money really. Thou the Fluval was a good price it isn't enough alone for that tank.
