New 20 Gallon Plants?

Hi everyone! I'm currently in the cycling process for my new 20 gallon. I plan on adding in my 3 tetras, a betta and snails to it. I have some decor I want to add, mainly just a zen theme going on. I haven't been the best with live plants, I think my water is having something to do with it. My PH in my other tanks always used to swing, but since I started adding in Seachem alkaline buffer it's gotten better. My 10 gallon in the picture has a bigger piece of wood, along with a moss bridge. I'm not sure if I'll add the wood because it may take up too much room, I glued my anubias to it but its slowly starting to come off, I think because of the snails being so hefty. Anyone have any ideas for plants? I would love to add swords but I know they get huge and the tank is 16" high.

That sounds like a cool tank but you need 6 tetras to have a school I would suggest 6 neon tetras

Then In my opinion it will be a cool tank and in the 20 gallon you could add maybe a school of corydoras

Anubias
Amazon Sword
Java Fern
Crypt Wendtii
Amazon Frogbit

Thanks! I basically got (saved really) the 3 black neons in a 10 gallon along with the stand the 20 gal is on for $20. I swear they must be made of steel, because the water was so hard I couldn't even get a good reading on it. I planned on getting 3 more and some corys actually!

Oh perfect thanks! I actually got frog bit from someone here once a while back and they didn't live very long. Again I'm not the best with plants, still trying to learn

That's ok. Java moss, anacharis, hornwort, and guppy grass are all easy. Don't be discouraged if the plants don't work the first time. Practice makes perfect!

I know this isn’t the question but 3 tetras isn’t enough

Yep I agree. Sorry for the extra info but 6 is the minimum of schooling fish.

If you think a sword will get too large then crypts would be a good option. They're similar shape, but don't get as large.

Recommend taking a look at some of the buce plant varieties. They're a low growing plant good as a foreground option and while I've heard some folks mention melting they've been very successful in 2 of my tanks. The thing I like is they have something akin to a blue-green shade that stands out from the green, green and more green continuum.

Swords get huge. I saw a sword not even fit someone's 75 gallon. Buce, anubias, and crypts are good choices.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes I plan on getting at least 3 more tetras to make 6. The ones I have right now were in a bad situation, the lady was basically trying to get rid of them asap.
