I want to do a community tank, with many plants, and driftwood, and I want a sand bed. I don't know specific fish or plants I want yet,the thing that's bothering me is I can't set it up until Feb.because I'm going to tile my carpeted floor, incase of big spills in the future, lol,oh and jerilovesfrogs I didnt mean to capitalize every word lol.

Congrads on that new tank. I had a 140 at one time and really liked it. Just make sure to have plenty of filter for it. You will need it. I had 2 Eheim canisters and the large Aquaclear HOB as a back up running together. Never ever had a water problem. I always over filter every tank I have ever had. I like clean water. Its good medicine and the fish love it.

Without knowing what the diminutions of the 180 gallon tank are and what is the watt rating on the light strips are I would guess that as long as you don’t over plant it and don’t use plants that require high light you should be OK. The deeper the tank is the more light that is required to get the high light plants to grow but most medium and low light plants should do well in it. I would recommend using something like Leaf Zone to help boost the nutrients in the new tank for sure.

When I started using Leaf Zone in my 125 gallon tank you sure could tell a difference in the plants in just a few days. The plants started perking up and looking greener within two days and now I am really happy with the way everything is growing. I don’t even use the recommend dose any more. I cut back a bit on the weekly dosage to about 2/3 and everything is still looking great.

The two things that I have found that make plants happy is the proper amount of light and nutrients provided to them. I am not saying the more the better because this is simply not true. The proper amount for the plants you have is what I recommend. If you have low light plants you don’t need to provide high light and it could be just as bad as not providing enough to high light plants.

Enjoy setting up your new tank. Take the time to do it right and set it up the way you want. Don’t get in such a big hurry that you cut corners getting it set up and going, it will only cause you heart aches. A well thought out and planned tank is a happier and healthier tank which will remove the stress from you and your fish.
