I have a 125 gallon tank and have a 30 gallon tank that will be my sump. I want to have schooling fish any suggestions? I was thinking about Jack Dempseys, Jaguars and Convicts. I would like lots of color any ideas?

I've always thought a very large school of small tetras would be cool in a large tank like a 100g+. Maybe 2 or 3 different schools. Like maybe 30 neon tetras, 30 glowlights, and 30 black skirts or something like that.

African cichlids have a lot of personality, wiggle at the front of tank when they are hungry, known to recognise their owner, show a lot of interesting behaviour, and fun to handfeed/watch (Caution required in size of fish if handfeeding haha some can take a nasty chomp). They're all hardy which is great

Tetras are nice, neons are well known for NTD (Neon Tetra Disease) and it can spread quickly and wipe them all out, it passes to other fish too, it's only called NTD because they are most common for it.

If you are really good with water parameters, maintenance, quarantining, etc, then neons would look really nice. I gave them a swirl but personally found them to die easily, which was sad

Small schooling fish would just make for fast moving snacks for big cichlids. Silver dollars are fine with the big guys. I have 6 in with a JD, green terror and 4 Severums in my 125. Look into Severums if you want colorful large cichlids. This is one of my red spotted sevs.

If you want colour and a lot of fish then definitely go with african! The more african fish you have the less aggression in the tank there is which forces you to stock it up! Good luck with your decition!
