Nervous about dividing betta tank.

I'm so scared about dividing my betta tank. what if they find a way to attack?! I would feel horrible. the DIY betta dividers have been suggested to me, but I'm worked about making something and it not working. I picked out a divider that has my exact trank dimensions but I'm worried the bettas would see each other. What should I do? should I just give hesus the ten gallon to himself? if I did divide I would put canvas on top so I wouldn't have to lover the water level. any ideas on attaching? suggestions welcome and appreciated

check craigslist. In my area I could buy a 10 gallon set up for under $20.

I tried dividing one once with bettas and I just ended up feeling really badly for my 1st betta who just had his house squished. The guilt was more than I could take. And the divider was flimsy. And they figured it out.

Plus- aquascaping wise, kinda tacky with no chance of recovery.

I just divided my betta tank. I was not a fan of the see through dividers I was worried they would just flare up and exhaust themselves. So I went to Michaels craft store and bought needle point plastic mesh, and then cut to fit, and made them sturdy buy "encasing" it in plastic report cover sliding bars and divided it quite nicely. You can get a variety of colours in the mesh, I just went a standard black. They do not see each other at all. Let me see if I can get a pic.

I use the Top Fin tank divider from Petsmart. It took some fiddling to get it to remain stable, but I've had no problems since (well, problems that weren't from user error ;D).

Whether or not your bettas will flare at each other depends on the bettas. The betta on the left flares from time to time; the one on the right couldn't care less about the other betta. I had a betta alone in a 10 gallon a few months ago, but he didn't use the whole tank and it seemed kind of empty.

(Please excuse the cords in the back, I haven't had a chance to put the background back up yet. )

Thank you! I just set it up two weeks ago, so the plants haven't really grown in yet. I'll be putting a black background up when I get around to it (I think fish/plants always look better against a black background), and I may put a sponge filter on the other side, to help increase surface agitation. I wouldn't be able to hide it though... Maybe behind the java fern somehow?

Anyway, I'd say 95% of the time the bettas aren't interacting with each other at all. I like the idea of there being some mental stimulation for them; I'm gone most of the day and I think Boris was bored being alone in the tank all the time. Now they can leave each other alone if they want, or get in arguments through the fence

I use lees dividers I think they are much better as far as the plastic pieces at the end. ill post the video below but its not the finished product and the video is not exactly about them so bare with me lol.

I also cut my own dividers to make sure they are a perfect fit. I started using black plastic folders so they can't see each other. only cutting two little sections at the top back and bottom right to let water flow threw. I use mesh to make the bottom and top safe. my bettas were constantly flaring at each other. I think that's why some have fin rot. sense adding divider they can see threw they seem much better.

in my future I will only have one betta. they are a very friendly fish that likes your attention. I feel like I can't give them all the attention they want. just letting ya know my feelings on it after owing many of them. if I don't give my community fish attention at least they have friends to keep them happy lol.

the vid is about cleaning a hob filter sorry lol. I'm going to do a 33g update when I get it a lil more organized. I talk about them a little at the end around 11min.
