Nerite snails attached to each other, are they eating each other?

Hello, I have 3 nerite snails I’ve had for 3-4 years. I used to have 4 in a planted tank and 1 disappeared.... I looked through gravel (heard they can bury themselves) no luck. That particular snail had white spots on the shell. Could be a parasite or calcium deficiency. I have no idea what happened to this snail but I have since changed my tank to a Crushed coral substrate. All my water tests read in great ranges

My question is I keep separating my remaining 3 nerites off each other because 2 (I suspect males) keep climbing onto one’s back... but this was happening with the other one that disappeared and I fear they ate it...

Remaining snail shells look in great condition, they are active and seem healthy. I throw in some algae flakes just in case they’re hungry but calcium and water hardness looks fine.

Do nerites sometimes eat each other? Or is this “hitching a ride” climbing behavior harmless?

I'm honestly not sure, my nerite snails have done this recently too so I'm curious as to why.

Highly unlikely they will eat each other. They are probably mating. Have you noticed any hard white eggs on your decorations?

Yeah they used to lay a bunch of eggs I’ve recently cleaned the tank. Ok so they mate then before laying eggs? I wasn’t sure
