Nerite snail slowing down

Anyone ever notice their nerite snail slowing down? He has been in the tank for three weeks, with zebras for 2 weeks, cories for a week, and it seems he is just hanging out at the substrate level on the back glass. He used to be all over the place so just wondering.

Water is 72, 0 amm and nitrite, 10ppm nitrate.

Have you picked him up and smelled him to see if he's alive? He could just be napping.

I went to net him and he seems well attached to the glass, lots of suction. So didn't want to harm him if he is alive. He went MIA for a few days and I found him behind a fake log decor.

Oh, then I wouldn't worry at all. He's probably just resting. Do you leave any veggies for them?

Not yet but the tank has a ton of green algae forming. He's my sole snail right now.

You recommend romaine lettuce or blanched veggies?

I don't usually blanch my veggies since they break down more easily and make a mess of the tank. You can put in romaine lettuce, zucchini, spinach, unsalted green beans, carrots, yellow squash.

Maybe I'll give him some treats, do they need it for digestion? I had two nerites in a plant only tank (7 gallon bookcase) for a year or so without additions.

The calcium rich veggies like spinach and zucchinI are good for shell strength/growth. You can also add cuttlebone to your filter that will also help their shells.

Edit: I always leave a fresh veggie in for my mystery snails and nerites 24/7

Alright will do thanks.

I'll add some baby spinach today! Hope the little sucker (hahah get it) is alright.

So he has noticeably moved but here are a few pictures. The one with my finger, I am pointing to where he was 24 hrs ago.

He might have just found some tasty biofilm or beginning algae to eat. As long as he is stuck to the glass he is probably fine. Alison

Is he leaving his shell?

I hope not! He'll die without it. Is that a tight squeeze under that black thing? He might just be struggling to pull his shell through the gap and the struggle is pulling his body out a bit.
