Nerite Shell Hole

TayShrum

I got this horned nerite snail earlier this week and noticed that there's a small hole in it's shell. The nerite is in a 5 gallon take with a betta and a mystery snail (the three get along well, the fish has no interest in his tank mates). I'm assuming this was there when I got him from but I just didn't notice in my excitement (I was trying to acclimate and hide him before my mom got home so that she would be surprised). I don't have any more test strips to see what my water parameters are at the moment but when I placed him my Ph was 7.1, Kh was 3, Gh was 4.

Its fairly common for snails to have pits and such in their shells. Generally its caused by calcium deficiency or damage to the shell. So long as you take care of your new little friend they should be fine. The hole likely won't fill itself fully back in but new growth should be strong.
