Neptune update...

Neptune is doing great. He loves his tank and friends...4 peppered cories.. They get along fine. The only thing I have a problem with is neptune only wants to eat the sinking pellets I put in for the cories. He doesn't eat his betta balls or flakes. He nose dives after the pellets and carries them around until he eats the whole thing... Is this ok.. will he get enough of what he needs by doing this.... oh here is a new pic of him also...

Try maybe feeding him bloodworms. They usually love those. He needs some protein. Bettas are carnivores, so they need that nutrition. It's ok for him to eat the pellets, they won't hurt him by all means, but he needs the protein to grow and be healthy. Natalie

Well most foods for Cories contains shrimp too so he is getting some protein but he does need to behave and let the Cories have their own food LOL.

He is beautiful and so unique in his coloring and looks VERY healthy. You are a good mommy and you will get it worked out. I agree with Natalie though, try him on some freeze-dried bloodworms and see if that will tempt him. Almost all the bettas that we have had really big problems with in eating their food have loved the bloodworms. If he does not eat them, your other fish will. The Cories love them and will swim to the top to pluck one off the surface if the betta doesn't eat it. (after a while, when the Betta is not watching)

You can be very proud of him and he sounds like he has a great personality if he is such a little stinker! ;D

I agree with gammerous. Now that she mentions it, his colors do remind me of an oil rainbow.  He is a very handsome fish. He is also very big! ;D

HI Skippi

Nice Betta!!

What kind of Betta is Neptune??  I've been wondering what kind of Betta Zen is and yours looks almost exactly like Zen with the finnage edges that aren't all even like many Bettas.

Zen is the same color as yours too everywhere but the body.  Zen is blue instead of green.

Neptune looks like a Combtail to me. They are more valuable than the Crowntails when it comes to purchase price and much more suseptible to fin rot.

Noel was the first Combtail I ever saw and then I ended up owning him. A very lovely distributor and friend sold him to me on eBay and later Marty too. Gunnie was the one who woke me up to the Combtail and their characteristics. They make lovely fish but are a bit prone to finrot.

I thought I would send a picture of Noel to show his finnage and what can be acheived with the Combtails.

Yeah, that's definitely what Zen is. Noel's beautiful ((Rose))

Can't wait to be able to share a decent pic of Zen with everyone. Desperation to share that = a disposable camera so once they're developed, I can share (will have drug store put them on cd when they're developed)

Well had a major scare today.... Neptune looked like he swallowed a small army..(have pic to add later after adjustments) . I remembered you all ltalking about constipation and went and got some peas.. Made him eat some and he s now looking a lot better. Man I thought I might have had a prego female there for a sec, he was so bloated. I am glad that I am onlie here other wise neptune might not be anymore. Will keep an eye on him, the trouble maker that he is. I cna't believe a fish can cause so many problems. Well gotta go so will update later..

GrI'm got swollen like that too after eating an alege wafer meant for my otto. I think that's the biggest problem with keeping bettas with other fish... they (in my short experience with them) seem to want to eat EVERYTHING!!! I think GrI'm would eat my fingers if his mouth was big enough!!!

Neptune is a beautiful fish... and I'm glad you got him to eat some pea!
