Neons With My Betta?

Hello all,
I was thinking of upgrading one of my betta's current 10 gallon tanks to a 15 gallon and getting some tank mates for him. I was considering neon tetras because they are basically the only small schooling fish available at my LFS.
Anyway, I was wondering if putting neons with a betta is a bad idea? I'm not worried about my betta being aggressive. He's a virtual teddy bear. What I am concerned about is the neons nipping him. I could rehome them if I needed to.
Yay or nay?

Put the tetras in the tank first, add the betta after they are settled (maybe a week later). Of course after the tank is cycled.

Iffy. Neons can be nippy.
Have a back up plan

I’ve got embers with a betta and they are all angels to each other’s.

edit: angels as an adjective, not the fish lol

Thanks. That's what I was planning to do.

Okay. I'll be able to move them if I need to. Thanks!
