So I've had my 8 neon tetras for about 6 months now but they are not very active like I've seen in videos. They just seem to all hang out at the same place and barely move.

The aquarium is cycled, and the temperature ranges from 71F to 74F...

In my experience that is the diffetemce between neons and cardinals.

Neons at ease hang around, cardinals are more.active schoolers

I found that if they dont have enough hiding places abd feel vulnerable they prone to not being so active.

If they are happy and secure in their surroundings they will chill out like this.

What do you expect them to do if their needs are being met ?

Just be thankful they are not dropping like flies like most people's Neons on here.

If you want them to do tricks you will need to get training them.

OK, I was joking with that last advice.

I don't think your Neons are acting unusually.

However, if you've seen them acting differently then try and determine what differences there are in the setups that could account for the difference in behaviours and then copy them.

I've noticed that Neon Tetras can be suppressed by other species so they do not come out in the open for fear of being chased. This can be a real fear (actual chasing) or imagined (fear of being chased, feeling vulnerable).

They seem to be more bold and exploratory if they have cover to dive into if needed. Even if they don't actually need it.

If the flow is a little high for their comfort they will seek out a spot where the current is lower and more comfortable.

I keep my Neon Tetras as the only fish in the tank bar Bristlenose because I was sure they were surpressed by other fish.
