It really depends. One tends to 'Condition' fish for breeding. This usually includes feeding live foods and replicating what they would have in their natural habitats. For neons, tannin stained water and lots of plants tends to do the trick. I'd try a breeding mop which is amazing for egg laying fish. It is removable so when the fish has spawned, you can take the eggs out and not worry about the parents eating them, as well as being a single place for the eggs to be payed and not on multiple plants throughout the tank. Some people just get lucky and their tetras spawn anyway but this is a gaurunteed method of spawning.

Yea but how long exactly after I buy the neon tetras can you expect to start conditioning them for breeding. Like how many weeks afterwards are they ready to breed, their mature age

Most neons in the store are youngsters and need to get a little bigger I would think. They just scatter their eggs, I think . Welcome to the forum and glad you joined us. Alison
