Neon Tetra With Some Kind Of Fungus

Today I noticed one of my neon tetras had this worm like fungus growing on one side, it’s one of its fins and is stringy. I moved the neon to a planted qt tank. What is it and how do I treat it?

It could be internal parasites eating the nutrients from the fish and poop and that y the poop can come out clear and stringy ...

The poop isn’t stringy though. That thing is coming out of their gills

I’ve been dosing ick meds, nothing has happened. I’m thinking of just pulling them out and seeing what happens.

Def looks like a female anchor worm.

I know Diflubenzuron (tetra parasite guard) treats anchor worm. Usually it's a pond fish issue, but I got some kerrI tetras with them and had to treat it. Other than Diflubenzuron (since it May be difficult to find), Cyromazine is a newer used drug to treat anchor worm.

Thanks. Is there a reason I couldn’t just get some tweezers and yank them off? Since it’s a worm and not a fungus that should work right? Or is there something I don’t understand about it

I don’t understand how I got it. The neon tetras are the newest fish I got but I QTed them for a month.

You could try yanking it off, hopefully it didn't spray eggs everywhere yet. That's the issue, the eggs.

Do you ever use the same equipment in the pond? Come to think of it, I didn't see an anchor worm until about a month in of having the kerrI tetras.

Ok, so I’ll put them in a jar and yank them out there. I don’t think I have used any equipment from the pond. I did put a guppy from the pond into the tank. Could that have been it?

I would guess the guppy brought it in, yep.

I ripped it out. I guess I’ll do 3 more weeks of QT and see if it grows back

Let us know how it goes. Maybe do some extra siphoning in case she sprayed eggs.

I did a 50% water change yesterday and I’ll do another one today. I also removed the worm in a separate bucket of water
